Maple Syrup Tap

Maple Syrup Tap

This maple syrup tap would have been pounded into the trunk of a maple tree in late winter so that as the sap rose with the first days above freezing, it could be collected and boiled down to make syrup.

This tap was found still in a tree trunk in Rockland County by Bob Spear.
